It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Sandra Ann Barker announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center on May 6, 2019. At the age of 73, Sandy passed peacefully surrounded by her family after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer. Sandy was predeceased by her loving husband James F. Barker, her parents Frederick and Alice Poole, and her parents-in-law Harold and Annie Barker.
Sandy’s family was the center of her world. She was a proud and loving mother to Nancy (Brian) Barry and grandmother to Emily Barry, her pride and joy. Sandy was a beloved sister to Freda (Arnold) Edwards and Dr. Thomas (Mary) Poole, sister-in-law to Isabel Barker, and aunt to Fred (Christina) Edwards and Jennifer (Danny) Poole. She was affectionately known as “Nanny Sandy” to many, especially Vanessa and Laura Carroll.
Sandy was a social butterfly and always enjoyed her weekly games of cards and bingo. Her wide circle of friends and family already miss her radiant personality and laugh that could brighten any room.
For thirty years, Sandy worked at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor. Each day, she went above and beyond for the many residents living there. With her care-free attitude and generous nature, she never failed to bring a smile and share a laugh with every person who crossed her path.
Sandy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to special caregiver, Edna Barker, for her many years of love, support, and friendship. To the medical staff including; Dr. Lynette Powell, Dr. Amy King, Dr. Wendy House, and the nursing staff at the Cancer Clinic of the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center, we thank you for the exceptional care you provided to Sandy. We will always remember your kindness, support, and compassion.

On Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., Father Joseph Uy will conduct the funeral mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mike Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes.
