Sidney Joseph Lane
1950-2020

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sidney Joseph Lane announce his passing at Kelly’s Pub in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on June 4, 2020 at the age of 69. He is predeceased by his parents John C. and Hazel Lane, brothers David, Harold, and Tobias, and sister Elsie Oldford. Sid leaves to mourn his son Christopher and daughter Christina. Also leaving to mourn his brothers William, & John (Sharon), and sister Joan Pretty, nieces, nephews along with a large circle of friends.

Sidney “Sid” as he was affectionately known, grew up in Grand Falls-Windsor. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many things such as fishing, salmon fishing being one. He went on a lot of fishing trips with his brothers, nephews and buddies. He loved animals, especially cats. He was a well known pool and dart player for many years and at one point he was know as the best dart player on the Island.

Sid was always interested in music from an early age. He played lead guitar and sang in many bands over the years such as Red Fox, Sweet Water to name a few and the most recent was Young at Heart with Lorne Way, Russ Way, Jerry Smith and Dan Knee until his health declined. He was very successful in the music industry all over Newfoundland and Labrador. He also operated a few nightclubs in GFW “Shirleys” and “Double “S”, for many years.

He will be dearly loved and missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to say a Special Thank You to Tina Mercer and Staff at Kelly’s Pub where he resided.

To the Lane Family.
Please accept my deepest sympathy on Sidney’s passing.
I grew up on Crescent Heights and in the 1950ties Sid was always a regular at my birthday parties.
When I look at those old black n white pictures I see Sid n me n a bunch of wild laughing excited 8 year olds with bows n arrows in party hats cranked up on freshie n cake enjoying a major sugar rush!
I look at those pictures and realize how much time has gone by.
Wonderful warm n innocent memories of a more gentle time.
I always liked Sid,
and even though I did not know him well, over the years, he always came over no matter how long I had gone away from Grand Falls and said hello. I always appreciated that.
He never forgot you!!
I knew him as a tremendous musician n the last time I saw him he was playing at Kelly’s with the “Young at Heart“ in 2005 when we all came back for the 100th Grand Falls Celebrations.
They were a great band n the place always rocked with the oldies when they played.
May God Love Sid n May the Lord Bless and comfort you all in this time of sorrow.
Sincerely,
Frank Hiscock
