Obituary for Sidney Joseph "Sid" Lane

Sidney Joseph Lane
1950-2020

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sidney Joseph Lane announce his passing at Kelly’s Pub in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on June 4, 2020 at the age of 69. He is predeceased by his parents John C. and Hazel Lane, brothers David, Harold, and Tobias, and sister Elsie Oldford. Sid leaves to mourn his son Christopher and daughter Christina. Also leaving to mourn his brothers William, & John (Sharon), and sister Joan Pretty, nieces, nephews along with a large circle of friends.

Sidney “Sid” as he was affectionately known, grew up in Grand Falls-Windsor. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many things such as fishing, salmon fishing being one. He went on a lot of fishing trips with his brothers, nephews and buddies. He loved animals, especially cats. He was a well known pool and dart player for many years and at one point he was know as the best dart player on the Island.

Sid was always interested in music from an early age. He played lead guitar and sang in many bands over the years such as Red Fox, Sweet Water to name a few and the most recent was Young at Heart with Lorne Way, Russ Way, Jerry Smith and Dan Knee until his health declined. He was very successful in the music industry all over Newfoundland and Labrador. He also operated a few nightclubs in GFW “Shirleys” and “Double “S”, for many years.

He will be dearly loved and missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to say a Special Thank You to Tina Mercer and Staff at Kelly’s Pub where he resided.

A private family service will take place. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the family. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.
