VERNON JOSEPH "VERN" CAREY
1942 - 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Vernon Joseph “Vern” Carey announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, on June 25, 2019 at the age of 77. Vern retired from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Hazel Carey, sister, Lorraine, and brother, Colin. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Frances, son, Bob (Denise) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, and daughter, Cathy (Art) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Also leaving to mourn are his grandchildren, Colin and Jessica, brothers, Neil (Ruby), Thomas (Joanne), and Angus, sisters, Annette Power, Dianne Griffin (Mike), and Ruth Hillier (Donnie), and a large circle of relatives and friends.

Vern loved his family very much. He also loved the outdoors - fishing, hunting, and his cabins, especially spending time on the Gaff Topsails and Millertown Junction. He worked with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for over 20 years, and enjoyed his job very much. Vern was an excellent bowler, and especially enjoyed his friendships he made through bowling. He had a witty personality, many friends and hobbies, including coin collecting. He fought a long, courageous battle with COPD and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Father John Agim will conduct the funeral service at Central Funeral Homes Chapel in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. No flowers by request. Donations may be made in his memory to the Lionel Kelland Hospice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.
