Obituary for Wilfred Thomas Howse
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wilfred Thomas Howse announce his passing at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor on June 22, 2023 at the age of 88. Wilfred retired from Robinson Blackmore Printing & Publishing.
Wilf started his career as a Linotype operator at Robinson Blackmore in 1952. An expert typesetter, he remained close to 50 years with the company setting type for The Grand Falls Advertiser and many other publications. In his retirement years Wilf shared his passion for local history by volunteering at the Grand Falls-Windsor Heritage Society where he became a ‘de facto’ town historian. His passion and impeccable memory for the town he loved led to valuable contributions.
Wilf enjoyed watching the Blue Jays, NHL Hockey, sharing his vast factual knowledge to anyone who would listen, and telling classic Dad jokes. He embodied the spirit of a true home-town son.
Predeceased by his parents Frank and Martha, and sister Ruth Janes.
Wilf leaves behind his wife, Eileen (Tubrett), his daughters Nancy Howse (Kevin Bray) of Nanaimo, BC, Valerie Howse (John Mancuso) of Toronto, ON, and Carolyn Howse (Mark Wells) of Mayne Island, BC; and David Howse (Bita Moftakhar) of Calgary, AB. Also leaving to mourn are his brother Bruce Howse, 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Mitchell, John Howse, Amy Nascou, Isabel Boni, Noah Boni, Christopher Howse, Kiana Howse; and 2 great-grandchildren Allie Mitchell and Ruby Mitchell.
Visitation will be held at Central Funeral Homes Chapel on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Rev. Robin Trevors will conduct the funeral service from Central Funeral Homes Chapel on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at the Interfaith Cemetery. A reception will be held following the interment at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Lionel Kelland Hospice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Julia Caines of Central Funeral Homes.
