Obituary for William Alexander "Sandy" Freake

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late William Alexander Freake (Sandy) announces his passing surrounded by his family and friends at the Springdale hospital on March 11, 2021 at the age of 76.

Sandy was born on November 16, 1944 to Alexander and Annie Freake of St. John, NB. He was one of seven children. He came to Harry’s Harbour, NL to live with his grandparents and later moved in with his Aunt and Uncle until he met and married the love of his life, Doris King. He later became a loving dad to two little girls and many foster kids that they took care of through the years; one which became the son he never had. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to six beautiful grandkids who he loved dearly.

Sandy was a very hard worker and provided for his family through many different types of jobs as he was what one would call a ‘jack of all trades’ making many lifelong friends along the way. He later became a cook for various drilling companies where he then retired at the age of 65.

Sandy’s passion with cooking continued through volunteering with many church functions and anywhere he could peel a vegetable. He was a man of faith and became Corp Sargent Major and played a very active role in the Salvation Army Church in Harry’s Harbour.

He touched the hearts of everyone he met with his captivating smile, kindness, funny sense of humor and his many, many stories.

Sandy was predeceased by his parents, Alexander & Annie; sisters, Jeanie and Carol; brother, Tony; and granddaughter, Alisha.

He leaves to remember the wonderful life that he lived: his loving wife, Doris; daughters, Beverley (Johnney) and Elaine (Andre); and son, Shane (Wendy). Also left to mourn are his five grandkids, Noah, Allie, Carson, Katie and Jack; sisters, Debbie, Joan, and Judy (Alex); brothers, Charlie (Patsy), Elmo (Marilyn), and Sterling (Pansy); and extended family and friends.

Dad, you will forever be in our hearts.
