Obituary for William Higgins

It is with great shock and sadness that the family of William (Bill) F. Higgins announces his passing at home on February 18, 2023 at the age of 63. Bill was born in Grand Falls-Windsor and that is where he spent most of his life. Upon graduating from high school, Bill became a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and with his sweetheart and new wife Rosalind Rowsell moved to British Columbia where he served for 3 years. During this time their daughter Jennifer was born. Bill and Rosalind were married for 41 years.

The military wasn't the career for Bill so he and the family moved back home shortly thereafter. He was quite handy with his hands, and a career in building maintenance and repair began and he loved this occupation.

Bill is predeceased by his father, Winfield Higgins, father-in-law Gordon Rowsell, mother-in-law Gertrude Rowsell (Burry), sisters-in-law Jackie, Isabella and Kelsey Higgins and Edith (Kay) Rowsell.

Left to mourn are his wife Rosalind, daughter Jennifer (Derek) Bishop, his mother Lillian Higgins, brothers Larry Higgins, Paul (Ann) Higgins, Winfield (Bernie) Higgins, Brian (Peg) Higgins; sisters Theresa (Ron) Sullivan, Debbie Higgins (Brad Cramm), sister-in-law Barbara (Bart) Walsh and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.

Bill was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed and participated in many sports; senior hockey as a goal tender, baseball, softball and darts. He also enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, and cutting firewood with his father-in-law. He developed a real passion for salmon fishing, thanks to his father-in-law and along with his family, Ros, Jennifer and Derek spent many hours fishing the Exploits River, mainly Stoney Brook and Goodyear's Dam.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and the Celebration of Life Service will be conducted by Rev. Kim Waite on 23 February, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will take place at a later date.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have expressed sympathy for their loss.
