Obituary for Florence Maud Hiscock

Florence Maud Hiscock
Florence Maud (King) Hiscock
“Ole Sock”
March 12, 1935 – April 15, 2015

It is with sad and heavy hearts that the family of Florence Maud (King) Hiscock (Ole Sock) announce her passing at the CNRHC, Grand Falls-Windsor on April 15, 2015 at the age of 80 Years.
Flo was a member of the Esperence Rebekah’s Lodge #64. Flo worked at the Grand Falls Drug Store with many years of dedicated service.
She was predeceased by parents, John and Gladys (LeDrew) King; Donald, husband of 60 years; brothers, Herbert (Nona), Jack (Geraldine); sister, Edith (Norman) Fudge; daughter-in-law, Sarah.
Left with cherished memories are daughters, Mae (Nish) Barry, Pamela (Allan) Healey, Edith (Gary) Waugh, Donna (Clancy) Power; sons, Jim (April), Bob (Shianne); 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special daughter, Rhonda White.
Being a member of the Rebekah’s, Mom cooked many flippers for their flipper dinner sales. Some people would wait until Flo’s flippers arrived at the hall to be sure they were getting the ones she cooked. She had a real gift for putting flavor on anything. Like Dad would always comment: “The Ole Sock can put flavor on an old boot”, and that she could!
Mom had a genuine, caring quality for everyone she met; her weakness was the children. She made them feel so important. The doors of her home were always open and not long after entering her home the pots would be hauled out with a chunk of frozen meat placed inside and before you knew it, you would be called to the table. No matter how many showed up there was always plenty for everyone. We think she learned that from her mom. She had one son working at the mill but we think she fed half the mill workers because of the load of food she would send in!!
She warmed many hands and feet with her home knit mittens and treasured socks. Her loving nature, a quality given few, will be surely missed by all who were fortunate to have met her. Mom would quote: “Your gift from God is your life. What you do with your life is your gift to God.” She has given God a great gift.

No flowers by request. Donations can be made in her memory to the Children's Wish Foundation.
