Obituary for Theresa Marie Penton (Cole)

Theresa Marie Penton (Cole)
Theresa Marie Penton
1925 - 2015

It is with great sadness that the family of Theresa Penton announce her passing in Springdale, NL on Thursday, June 25, 2015 in her 90th year. Theresa was born in Fogo, NL on August 17, 1925, the fifth child of Michael and Edith Cole. She spent a great deal of her childhood in Joe Batts’s Arm with her aunt and uncle, Amelia and John Fogarty. She married Patrick Penton of Joe Batt’s Arm and together they had eight children, and raised two foster children. During her time in Joe Batt’s Arm she was involved in her church and community, serving as president of the Altar Society, and organizing many church socials and fund raising events. In 1970, Theresa and Patrick moved with their children who were still at home to Grand Falls-Windsor, NL to be closer to Patrick’s place of employment. There, Theresa became involved in St. Joseph’s Parish, worked at the Parish club, and participated with great enthusiasm in the activities of the Royal Canadian Legion as a proud associate member. Visitors to her home were always warmly welcomed with delicious and sumptuous meals and generous hospitality. She is predeceased by her husband Patrick and leaves with much love and awesome memories her children Frank (Barbara), James (Betty), Christine (Roy Dwyer), Pauline (John Fenwick), Ignatius (Jane), Brian (Patricia), David (Christine) and Austin (Charmaine), as well as Paul Mulrooney (Cheryl) and Carol Mulrooney. She is also predeceased by her friend and companion Patrick Alyward and survived by her sister-in-law Mary Frances Decker. She very much loved, and was adored by, her eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends with whom she enjoyed lots of laughter and good times.
