Obituary for Evelyn Marie Robbins

Evelyn Marie Robbins
EVELYN MARIE ROBBINS
1937-2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Robbins (Marsh), wife of Ernest Robbins; mother to Glenn Robbins (Eric Pelletier) and Peter Robbins (Jackie Howard), beloved grandmother of Shannon and Mark, sister to Pat Gellately, Eileen Sullivan and the late Exie Malone, daughter of the late Elias and Louise Marsh of Point Leamington.
Evelyn trained to become a registered nurse at the General Hospital in St. John’s. During her training she met her future husband Ernest, from Lumsden North, and they married in the fall of 1959. She worked at a hospital in Halifax while Ernest finished his engineering degree. After Ernest graduated they moved to Kapuskasing in Northern Ontario where they lived and worked for 2 years. They then returned to Newfoundland after Ernest accepted a job to work at the Price Pulp and Paper mill in Grand Falls, which has been their home ever since. Evelyn worked in the pediatric section of the Grand Falls hospital. It wasn’t long after moving to Grand Falls that their first son, Glenn, was born and a few years later Peter. Evelyn returned to nursing with the public health department, where she was required to travel around central Newfoundland making home visits and giving inoculations to school age children. After many years there, she had a break in her career but didn’t hang up her nursing cap for good until after working part time for several years at the Carmelite House Seniors Home.
As much as Evelyn loved nursing, her children were her first priority. She encouraged her boys to participate in a variety of activities and would tirelessly car pool Glenn and Peter to their various events and practices. She would continue this tradition later on in life with her beloved grand children, Shannon and Mark. Evelyn loved gardening and would spend countless hours cultivating her flowers and small vegetable bed.
Through both her personal and professional life Evelyn made many life long friends. They and her family will miss her sense of humour and her limitless kindness and compassion.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lionel Kelland House through the Rotary Club of Grand Falls. www.rotaryclubgf.com
