GEORGE CHARLES GARD
1933 – 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rev. George Charles Gard announce his passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home in Springdale on June 13, 2016 at the age of 82. Rev. George Gard was a member of The United Church of Canada, Masons (Notre Dame Lodge), A.O.T.S. Life Member and The Royal Canadian Legion Life Member. Following his retirement in 1998, Rev. George Gard continued to work and volunteer in many capacities. He was predeceased by his parents, James & Margaret Gard of Fogo; his grandparents; infant sister Stella; brother Walter Gard & sister-in-law Erna; niece Jennifer Peddigrew; father and mother-in-law Lloyd & Annie Acker and sister-in-law Jean Acker. Left with fond and loving memories is his cherished wife of 62 years, Phyllis; sons-Rod Gard (Sheila) of New Brunswick and David Gard (Bichon) of Florida; daughters-Nancy Macleod (Marie Clare) of Nova Scotia and Noel Macleod (Robert) also of Nova Scotia. Also leaving to mourn are his brother-in-law Basil Acker of Nova Scotia; grandchildren-Blossom of Florida, Libby and Isabella of Nova Scotia; great grandchildren-Aidin and Siona of Florida. He will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews-Judy, Kelly, Tracey, Scott, Randall, Ross and Joel and a large circle of extended family and friends including Jenny Li, Life Taylor, Don Huxter, Bonnie Rowsell, Cavell Simms and JoAnn Vincent. Rev. Wilson Gonese will conduct a memorial service on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM from the Grace United Church in Springdale. Donations in Rev. The family of the late George Gard would like to express Special Thanks to everyone who provided meals and transportation during his lengthy illness. Following the loss of a dear husband and father, many relatives, friends and neighbors visited, phoned, sent food, emails, on-line condolences, cards of sympathy and floral tributes. THANK YOU for your acts of kindness, love and support. We would also like to thank Rev. Wilson Gonese for the beautiful Celebration of Life service and Rev. Faith March MacCuish for her meaningful reflection. Thank you to Mel Pike and the choir for their ministry of music and Phil Clarke for providing sound. Thank you to the story tellers; Cavell Simms and Arianna Stone, Rick Buchanan, Ed Smith, Maureen Felte and Rev. Kathy Brett, and Marie Claire Chartrand who shared her story and read Nancy MacLeods message. Gloria Sheppard told her story and read stories from Noel MacLeod, Basil Acker, Judy Puddester, Bonnie Rowsell, Kelly Roy and Tracy Bowers. Many thanks also to Rev. Wilson and David Gard. We want to acknowledge the clergy from West District and the Springdale Ministerial who attended the Celebration of Life service of our beloved George. Thank you to Rick Buchanan who spoke on behalf of the Masons (Notre Dame Lodge), Royal Arch (James Strong), The Legion (Honor Guard), the A.O.T.S. (Ushers) and the U.C.W. for hosting the lovely reception.
