Rita Maisie Edith Colbourne (nee Parsons) was born to Maxwell & Maggie Parsons on June 17, 1929. She spent her early years of her life in Lushes Bight and moved to Pilley’s Island in 1951. On November 16, 1947 she married Stanford Colbourne of Lushes Bight. They had five children together. They reside in Pilley’s Island the majority of their lives. She came into a relationship with the Lord at a young age. She raised their children by a moral compass. Loving and guiding them to always respect their elders and to treat others how they wanted to be treated. While Stanford worked away she looked after the animals, grew her own vegetables and did whatever it took to run a smooth household for her family. She loved her children dearly and many times she used tough love to get them through. She was very proud of how each one of them turned out.
Rita loved travelling and cruising in her later life. As a homemaker that loved quilting, sewing and knitting, she constantly had two or three projects on the go at the same time. Her handiwork always turned out beautiful. She was over particular that carried over to her children.
As her children, we remember her as being a moral upright Christian lady who never missed a church service, no matter what the weather. We remember her constant love, devotion and encouragement. She was always hardworking from 6:00 am until 12:00 or 1:00 at night. Many times we heard our dad say, “ for goodness sake, Rita, isn’t it time for you to give that up and get some rest or at least sit down.”
The gates of memory will never close because we just have so many beautiful memories, Mother. Your light and your love, Mom, will warm our hearts forever. You have now found peace in the heavenly realms with Dad and Donna. At the end of our earthly journey, we’ll meet you all again. This is not “good-bye”, this is “see you later” Mom.
