Obituary for Harrison Raymond "Harry" Pretty

Harrison Raymond "Harry" Pretty
HARRISON RAYMOND "HARRY" PRETTY
1936 - 2018

Harry was born in Bishop's Falls on January 12, 1936 to Maxwell and Nellie Pretty. He met and married the love of his life, Loretta Bursey, on November 9, 1962. Together, they raised four children - Craig, Chris, Lisa, and Corey. Harry retired from the Department of Transportation in 1996 and quite often joked, "If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have worked another 10 years".

Harry was an active member of the Salvation Army Church. He was a retired bandsman who loved nothing more than to hear the band play Sunday mornings. He could often be seen on the door Sundays, ushering in the congregation, and he was also a very active member of the men's fellowship. Harry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, cut wood, and do anything else that included Gull Lake. Always conscious of safety, he made sure to carry his life jacket aboard the boat to make his seat more comfortable for sitting on the trip up to the lake. Harry spent many years guiding family and friends, showing off his rabbit snare tying skills. If one was struck up, and the rabbit got away, it was always someone else's snare, most likely Craig or Bruce. He loved to tell his hunting stories to anyone who listened. You were likely to hear the same stories a few times over, but told a different way. If he wasn't talking woods, he could be heard whistling a tune that only he could whistle, or playing the spoons and step dancing during a sing-along.

Harry's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of his life. He would light up like a light bulb with a visit from any of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren. He was a proud grandfather and his legacy lives on in them.

Harry was predeceased by his parents, Maxwell and Nellie Pretty, his stepmother, Jessie Pretty (Ms. Young), his brothers, Reginald, Cyril, Nelson, Lon, and Norman, his sisters, Mildred, Florence, and Violet (Sis), and his granddaughter Robyn. He leaves to mourn his wife of 55 years, Loretta, his children, Craig (Valerie), Chris (Karen), Lisa (Tom), Corey (Tammy), his brother, Clifford, his stepsister Avis (Wes Rendell), his 10 grandchildren, Lesley, Adam, Kyle, Jeremy, Keshia, Brayden, Brittany, Brianna, Victoria, and Josh, and step-granddaughters Amanda, Stephanie, Lauren, and Sophie. He also leaves to mourn 5 great-grandchildren, Jack, Mason, Rosalie, Emmerson, and Lauren.

We love you and will always miss you, Dad and Pop.
