Obituary for Jean Reckling

Jean  Reckling
Passed away peacefully on December 9, 2013 at 90 years of age, Jean Marion Reckling (nee Barnes). Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Anna Barnes; brother Arthur; sisters Marie, Vera, Francis and Viola. Left with fond and loving memories are sons Paul (Paula) of Goulds, Fred of Grand Falls-Windsor and Ernest (Carol) of CBS, NL; daughters Gloria of Grand Falls-Windsor and Darlene (Keith) of Grand Falls-Windsor and her last surviving sibling Ken Barnes of Grand Falls-Windsor. Jean also leaves to mourn grandchildren Christopher Frye (Florida), Tammy (Jason) Marriage of Florida, Beth Reckling of St. John's, Heather Reckling (Graydon) of Halifax, Amy Reckling of Ottawa, Sarina Reckling of CBS, Matthew Reckling of CBS, Melissa (Kenneth) Goudie of Calgary, Erin (Dennis) LeDrew of Calgary, Ryan Rideout of Grand Falls-Windsor; great-grandchildren Audrey, Brianna, Chase and Dane of Florida, William, Robbie and Lila of Calgary; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as her lifetime friend Marg Hopfel of Grand Falls-Windsor.

Jean was an active member of the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception as a Choir member and Reader, as well as Saint Gerard's Guild. She also enjoyed many community activities such as the Northcliff Drama Club, the Curling Club, Tops Group, Union Chapter at work and her many special girlfriends from the Mill. Jean retired from Abitibi Price in 1988. Jean was born and raised in Grand Falls-Windsor, the 5th of 7 children born to Anna and Arthur Barnes. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy and after completing a year of Commercial, went to work at the American Air Force base in Gander and Stephenville. During this time she met and married Ernest Henry Reckling of Norfolk, Virginia and had 5 children. Jean loved to sing and have fun. She always enjoyed a game of cards, going to bingo, curling, darts and bowling. She was a woman of great strength with her own very unique style. She will be missed.

Father William Hearn conducted the funeral at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.
