Aunt Marjorie, the family "rock"

From the time I was a small child, I always looked forward to going to Aunt Marjorie’s. My fondest memories were of her welcoming and cheery home on Christmas Day. Loaded with relatives, it was a warm and friendly place – and Aunt Marjorie was at the center of it. The Christmas smells and the conviviality were things that I always cherished. To this day, not a Christmas passes that I don’t remember the wonderful times that she shared with all of her family. As my cousin Donna has said, she valued her family above all else. To my mother, who was Aunt Marjorie’s sister-in-law, Aunt Marjorie was always a support and a source of strength. To her only sister, Pat (who I was named after), Aunt Marjorie was the prop that she could rely on when things were tough. Uncle Bert, Uncle Jim and Uncle George, the family bachelors, all enjoyed her sisterly support and assistance. She was always there for everyone. I’m sure it was sad for her to see her husband, siblings and friends go before her, one-by-one. But she would never let it get her down. The thing about Aunt Marjorie was that she was always interested in LIFE, and she always enjoyed a good story or joke. There was always a twinkle in her eye. She was very “with it” and loved to know what was going on in the lives of her friends, her siblings, her children and grandchildren and her many, many nieces and nephews – and great nieces and nephews! She kept track of them all. She was a classy lady, a woman of great strength and substance, and we will miss her very much.
